Introduction To A Student Athlete

Hey my name is Jaelan Anderson and I am a sophomore at Johnson C. Smith University where my major is Computer Engineering. I am a member of our football team at the school I use to play Quarterback but now I play tight end. My goal this semester is to have better grades than I did last semester I know I am going to have to focus cause be a student athlete is extremely hard to manage. My goal in life is to be rich and have a stress free life while being successful and managing my life the right way to prevent any problems to distract me from my goals.

  1. Jaelen,
I too am a student athlete, I am a graduate student on the track team. Your blog intrigues me because, what caused you to switch to a tight end from a quarterback? It seems like an odd position change. I am just curious because when I played college ball I changed from a quarterback too wide receiver. Did this position change cause you to have to gain weight? I.E. muscle and what not? OR have you kept your same weight. All of these questions intrigue me but you don't have to answer them. Also, as far as grades go, just stick to it and show effort and I promise you will be fine. Best of luck to you this season!

  2. Hey Jaelen! I think we have already met before but it is nice to see we have another class together. I completely understand where you come from with struggling to manage athletics and academics. I actually had to stop my path as a tennis player to focus solely on my academics. I hope you can reach your goal of having good grades this semester!

  3. What's Good Jaelen. I am a DIE HARD football fan and am rooting for you all this season. Are there any new goals you've set for yourself when it comes to sports and academics this year? Other then being a student athlete of course. Honestly I thought going back to school at my age was going to be a cake walk, but I have to admit working eighty hours a week and cramming the school work in is daunting. Soooooo, hang in there. We all have our challenges.

  4. Hey Jalen,

How was the transition from one position to another? Do you think it was a smooth transition or did it take some time to adjust? We seem to have the same goal although mines involves studying psychology and being an entrepreneur some day. What are you looking to do with your degree once you graduate? I find that using your spare time wisely helps with raising your grades. But i know as a student athlete that is hard to do. How about doing homework assignments early?! Setting aside at least an hour or two everyday will go a long way eventually.
